# IFF

## H3Uni & International Futures Forum

Many of H3Uni’s founding ideas first found expression in the[ International Futures Forum ](https://www.internationalfuturesforum.com/)which was established by Graham Leicester in 2001, and which included Anthony Hodgson among its founding members.

IFF was formed to explore how to take more effective action in a complex world that we do not understand and cannot control. IFF’s pioneering work included meetings, learning journeys, research projects and investigative assignments in a range of areas relating to complex challenges faced by government, business and communities.

Three essential orientations arose from this:

* Taking the broadest possible view of context – always thinking systemically, combining holism with focus;
* Taking a long term view of patterns shifting over time, with past and future both taken into account
* Paying particular attention to the human system in every situation.

IFF continues to focus upon growing capacity for transformative innovation, supporting practitioners in the field, and incubating innovations in health and social care, and in education. H3Uni can be seen as one of the seeds from this work. A number of practices are shared with H3Uni and made available in the H3Uni Resource Library.
