“A cynic knows the price of everything and the value of nothing,” opined Oscar Wilde. Why not connect this jab to the more formal distinction between FACT and VALUE as laid out by Bennett in his investigations of the domains ? The domains of Fact and Value are separate but interdependent ; they join in the domain of Harmony.
What is value and how does it arise ? It can’t be wholly described by fact … there is something else at work ; it is the whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, an emergent property to which one can but assent (or not).
